Hey all,

I'm currently on Xnet and having terrible latency issues playing WoW, including disconnects in 25 man raids at peak times. From what I can gather from reading forums etc this is a problem for many Xnet customers and the Xnet rep certainly didn't indicate that there is any easy fix.... so I'm switching providers.

My question is:

Can any WoW players vouch that Orcon has a stable connection to the WoW servers? (Eg: without lag and disconnects). I'm keen to switch to Orcon but want some opinions first. I'm in the Dunedin area and hoping there will be a naked DSL plan here soon.

When we were with Orcon it was okay, we had speed issues so switched to Telecom. Would have to say Telecom's performance is a big improvement (as long as you stay away from Big time).

We play WoW a lot so was a big deciding factor on choosing/moving ISP's.

Orcon's support was okay, so long as you didnt email them. Email replies were taking up to two weeks if it at all.

Join the fan group on Facebook and the people on there a pretty helpful.

The Orcon support forum on here is pretty good too. Although having said that I'm not missing Orcon since moving back to the darkside.

Have you tried tunneling? I am currently on Xnet and was getting quite high ping (300-500ms) and so I tried the free trial and now I get 170-190ms ping consistantly.

Give it a go before you look at changing ISP's. You may find that the $5 a month it costs is well worth it.

Try what Ryan says but.... people have had problems playing wow on Xnet since 2007 even using ssh tunnels. If you care (alot) about wow you should probably change ISP.

The general consensus is that playing mmo's and using Ventrillo on US servers is best on:
Telstra, Telecom (not Big Time), Maxnet, Snap (if you're in Christchurch)

What about Vodafone, Orcon and Slingshot?

They've had significant problems in the past but there haven't seen many complaints recently so they might be worth a go. They are usually a decent amount cheaper than 4 ISP's I mentioned earlier.

Remember though sometimes the old expression "you get what you pay for" applies, if you go for cheap you get nasty eg: Xnet or Telecom Big Time.

I used to play WoW on Orcon...never had any problems and pings were pretty good.
