Hi i moved house a couple of months ago and had to change providers as Orcon did not provide adsl2+ where i live. I then changed to Maxnet as they seamed to be the best for what i needed and I like supporting the small guy a bit.

anyway my speeds have never been great in this house but over the last week I have not been able to get above 30kbps download and most of the time it sits around 5-6bkps which seams to be quiet bad for the nroth shore. I live around 50-80 carlisle rd, browns bay in case this makes any difference.

my line speeds are:

and some times I'm lucky to if i gget 1mbps down and 0.02 up.

states from my router are:

DSL Status:
Connected

DSL Modulation Mode:
ADSL2+

DSL Path Mode:
Fast

Downstream Rate:
11524 kbps

Upstream Rate:
70 kbps

Downstream Margin:

Downstream Line Attenuation:
34 db

Upstream Line Attenuation:
22.5 db

Downstream Transmit Power:
11 db

Upstream Transmit Power:
22 db

Encapsulation:
RFC 2364 PPPoA

Pcr Rate:

VCI:

PVC Status:

now i do a fair bit of downloading but my connection is also used for a lot of online gaming.

can anyone tell me of anything that i can do to increase the speeds? or is there anything that I can ring maxnet and ask for that could increase it? Or are these speeds expected?

Your upstream sync rate is the problem. Because this is so low you're only going to get slow downstream speeds.

Have you tried the basics like unplugging all phones and filters in your house and then trying to see whether things are better?

Have you recently been cabinetised at all?

well i dont have any phones pugged in anywhere and have tried running the modem with and without a filter with no difference tho i dont think that this should make any difference as the line is strait through for the modem is it not?
I do not beleave that I have been cabinetised recently but how would i check?

That area was cabinetised in 2009, you can enter your address on the Telecom Wholesale map site to verify, http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps

Definitely there is something wrong with your upload sync speed.

What make/model modem/router do you have?

You should get in touch with the Maxnet helpdesk, they have a pretty good reputation and it's likely they will need to get a tech to investigate your line.

ok quick update to let you know that the problem has been fixed. turns out that one part of the cabling was broken but i had replaced it with a broken cable. go figure.

Broken filters and phone/extension cables account for a lot of problems!
