I have moved to new address and want to connect my partner's iMac G3 OS9.2 onto the functioning broadband connection which has two PCs connected one with XP Pro the other with XP Home. Don't know much about Macs and I think I need help to set up the ethernet connection for it.

Currently have a Dynalink RTA 220 ADSL router, a 8 port ethernet hub, and a Wireless 802.11g LAN Access Point sender device with 2 USB receivers. Everything I tried has failed to get it to connect to the network, yet the Mac's ethernet port appears to be active and functioning at 10Mbps but has no "active zones" in the AppleTalk interface.

What am I missing or doing wrong? Is the router possibly not Mac compatable, or do I need to do some more configuring/set-up work, or do I need another piece of hardware? Help please, anyone?

Providing your iMac has the Wi-Fi hardware (most new models come with this) then you should not need anything else. The Wireless AP should be compatible.

You will need to enter the WEP Key (if any) on your Apple configuration, and check that your Wireless AP is not configured to filter connections by MAC address.

I can't help much on the Apple configuration side, since the only iMac here is actually using an external (USB) wi-fi adapter and the configuration is a bit different in this case.

Perhaps someone else will help with the Mac configuration.

hey man... yeah, your not going to get far with the apple talk, ignore it for now.

Go to the Apple menu and then the TCP/IP control pannel applet (doing this from memory, don't have an OS 9 box) you should then wiht the iMac plugged into the router set it to DHCP... if not... (I have had issues with OS 9 and DHCP but I think that was a cable problem) you'll have to set the TCP/IP manualy.

Not sure what your TCP/IP knowledge is like but the easyest way to get the details you need is to jump on one of the XP boxes and go >start >run > the type "cmd" (no quotes) and you'll get a command prompt. at the prompt type ipconfig -all and take note of the default gateway and DNS settings. Use these on the mac in the TCP/IP control applet... BUT, make sure you use a IP address that is not used by one of the XP boxes. If the XP box has an IP of like... 192.168.1.2, or ...3 or 10.1.1.2 etc... then poke the Mac up into a range that won't be given out by the router automaticly, try (if it is a 192.168.... address on the xp box) something like 192.168.1.100 and use the same subnet mask as on the XP box... this is all ONLY if setting the mac TCP/IP control panel to use DHCP (or "automatic") fails...

Post back here if you can't get it sorted,.. but the if thats the imac I think it is then wireless in not an option, use etherent, ignore apple talk, thats only for talking to other apples on tha same LAN...
