According to an email sent by Bob Smith today:

I'm writing to tell you of some breaking news from Woosh. Today, we purchased the well regarded national phone andInternet Service Provider, Quicksilver. This will enable us, over the coming months, to deliver additional product and servicesto meet your needs. From hereon, Woosh offers the best of wired and wireless phone and internet services at the right cost. Both companies remain committed to affordable pricing, value for money and tailored services that meet your needs. Nothingchanges in regards to our commitment to wireless services. Our wireless cell site rollout continues, growing our coverage areas.Combined with Quicksilver's national coverage, we now have your future broadband and phone needs covered regardless of thetechnology and regardless of your location. If you move, Woosh can move with you. This is the next stage of our expansionas New Zealand's third telecommunications network.

A good and interesting move. Let's hope they incorporate some of the good stuff from Quicksilver, and vice-versa.

This is very interesting. It seems like a smart move from a risk management point of view, as customers who are dissatisfied with the performance of Woosh's wireless technology will now have an alternative which doesn't require them to take their business elsewhere.

On the other hand, despite Bob Smith's assurance that they are still committed to developing their wireless infrastructure, I still can't help wondering if this is indicative of LLU threatening the long term feasibility of wireless Internet services.

I got an email from them announcing it, Now hopefully they can take on Quicksilvers managment and provide some helpful customer support to the woosh users!

I like the idea, two options, Wireline or Wireless, keen to see what happens to their future now!

they had no other choice but its a good move. now with the LLU the can drop the high prices that quicksilver had and maybe we can swap from wireless to wired and not have to pay $99 early disconection

I had the same thought, wasn't there talk about Woosh and Telecom banding together about stopping LLU and this was one of the reasons Douglas Web decided to go against LLU in his decision in December? I now fear for WiMax and on that point, a quote from Jenny Keown at the Herald;

"Quicksilver buy gives Woosh a land base.

Woosh Wireless is getting wired. The Wi-Max, high-speed internet company -" hmmmmmmmm she knows her stuff eh?....NOT!

From all the people I have heard complain about Woosh, it certainly can't make things any worse.

There you go, Brad, cleaned up.  Sorry for the poor attempt at opening post humor.

That is the most pointless post i've seen in a long time. Keep it on the topic of Woosh buying Quicksilver(the ISP) or the thread gets locked.

I am cancelling my QuickSilver account this week and moving to WorldXChange (they also offer uncapped domestic traffic)
I just can't bring myself to be a Woosh customer, it's too embarassing.

I think it's an interesting move, especially because the CEO of Woosh just resigned yesterday (Friday). You have to wonder if he really resigned or if he was pushed...

It'll be interesting to see how Woosh goes with a fixed line ISP aboard.
