What is the Grey pipe on most roads that house the telephone communications cables in ?

Where do I get information on access rights to these pipes & can they be moved ?

The pipe in question is located well within my boundry & we wish to build a perrimiter fence, which would then mean Chorus would have no free access to this.

Plus every time they come its always my driveway they use blocking my access, so it would make sence to move it....but how & who do I call ?

Chorus say call your provider ???? I dont have one that utilises the services ??

How did you contact Chorus? On the 124 cable location service?

So do you not have a landline or internet at all?

Is the pipe just a lead-in to your home? If so then you would have to pay for its removal.

If it is a trunk pipe serving other households, eg. as it runs down the street it is on part of your property, then you will need to check your auctual property boundary with the council.
Often when land is subdivided, chorus will stipulate that a right-of-way or strip of land is registered for telecommunications use with the council. I forget the auctual word they use.

Anyhow, if its on your property, and is going to block their access, then you will want to call them and advise they should move it themselves while they have the chance as accessing it in the future will be a problem.

Contacted Chorus via their website under the contact us - 0800 600 100 number

I have wireless phones & Mobile Broadband, so its redundant to us.

Just need it moved a few meters so Chorus can access when we build our fence.

It services another 2 properties I beleive (we are rural)

Its well within our boundry by 1 or 2 meters, so once the fence goes up it will be an issue for them.

Some of the guys are respectfull but others wont even move their vans so I can leave my own property...lol...last time the guy huffed & puffed because I asked if he could move so the school bus could drop the kids off safely & not on the SH

So looks like then its local council who can help

If you ring Chorus on 124 which is the cable location service they can probably offer some advice.

All pillars and pedestals are documented with your local council and Chorus have the right to enter property to work on them. Without knowing the layout of the local cabling it's impossible to know whether moving it will be simple, or require major work. You may also have to pay for this work to be done.

Oh now i see what you are talking about - the pvc pipes that stick above the ground with the pipe/cap over the top of them.

Underneath is basically two trunk cables that come up from the ground. The pairs are joined using scotchlok connectors that then send the lines further down the road to the next pvc pipe pedestal.
If houses are nearby, a couple of the pairs from the trunk cables, will be scotchlok'd to a lead in cable going into the house.

In simple terms, it usually looks like a jumbled mess of wires.

Having one of these can be complicated to move, and annoying to have on your property.

I doubt that chorus would be open to re-locating it.

Seen you don't actually connect to their network maybe here is you chance to either give them the choice to move it or pay some form of rental for it been on your property?

Remember it is YOUR property, you don't have to give a privately run company access to you land unless they have an agreement with you.

DONT go and try and move it yourself or chorus WILL charge you for damaging it. I work for one of the service companies that contract to chorus. The service companies will usually be happy to move the pillar as it will provide easier access for them and they get paid for it. If they do move it worst possible case is that they will put in a new loop (join in new cable and trench to where they want it) usually that would take about half a day for one guy to do.

My suggestion to you would be to contact the service company that does the chorus work in your area and talk to them about making a job up to move the pillar.
