How do I block certain websites from being viewed on my computer? I'm using Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6) on a Power Mac G4 desktop with Mac OSX 10.3.9Cheers

without buying into commercial filtering software you could try using the hosts file.

add the IP 127.0.0.1 for every site you want to block

if you were to look at /etc/hosts it would look like

127.0.0.1 www.sitetoblock.com

hey, if you want to block a couple of sites or just want to be locked into one website (useful in libraries/universities). You can probably edit the configuration on your router/modem assuming you have broadband. If you do have broadband give me your modem brand and model # and i might be able to help you out.

I'm going to piggyback off this thread-

Can anybody reccomend some decent / free commercial or open source website-blocking software? Or would I just be best learning the akward syntax of my router's firewall?
