Hey guys,

Apologies in advance for the extreme blondeness that is coming...

I recieved a prebuild PC from play tech today and have no idea how to get this up and running! Came with discs for motherboard, graphics, windows etc so have plugged in and switched on but my monitor is saying no signal.. (Have retried monitor on laptop and works fine...)..

Any ideas? Starting to think buying a laptop from a store woulda been a better idea :(

Ta!

Sounds like you've connected the screen to the onboard video instead of the graphics card. I'm guessing you've got a video card installed.

Yeps but have you connected (pc end) to the video card? it's usually fitted in a spare slot.

Spare slot? Plugged it into the blue 15 prong point. When you say to the Vid card does that mean opening up and attaching?

You will most likely have a DVI connection also on the back, they look like this:

PC: 3.3ghz Core i5-2500, 8gb DDR3, ATI Radeon 5850, 27" QHD IPS Monitor

Mobile Phone: iPhone 5 32gb Graphite.

No it won't, do you also have the DVI port on your monitor? or just a VGA (the blue one)?

You don't have to. You can buy VGA to DVI adaptors too.

Thats the graphics card VGA port that was mentioned by one of the others. It overrides the built in motherboard one.

Where are you up to now?

Installing Windows should be straightforward. Once Windows is installed, get some antivirus software on as your first action.

Then concentrate on the motherboard CD, it has lots of important drivers to help your network, video, sound, and other components operate correctly.

Try and stick to one task at a time, as installing things on Windows often precludes other installation processes from occurring at the same time.

Don't worry about mucking round with screen resolution until your correct graphics drivers are installed. Windows may or may not make your screen look dumb initially, but thats okay. The driver CD will fix that.
