hey everybody

i finished work early today so i rushed home before the misses finishes work for a quick game of dota2 without the sighing and glaring looks. Everything was working fine last night now all of a sudden when i turn my computer on it turns on, 1 post beep but monitor doesnt come out of sleep and my usb keyboard and mic dont get any lights like they normally would.. but cpu fan, utp light and mother board lights are all going. im not very good at this sort of thing and if any1 out there could give any help or tips, would help me get back to owning noobs. cheers!

Usually one beep is a memory failure.

Have you tried unplugging the power cord for a couple of minutes and turning it on again?

If not working then most likely it will need some repair done.

You just don't have what it takes to turn on a computer?

Seriously though, I'd suspect if taking the power off for a minute or two fixed it, your power supply is on the way out.

Have you tried reseating the RAM? (Pulling them out and putting them in again properly to make sure they werent loose). Just might rule out this happening in the future and just a good thing to do in terms of preventative maintenance.

My desktop PC has been getting harder and harder to restart and a series of short power outages today finished it off. Previously I could get it going again by powering off for a while, but today it wouldn't boot up, similar to yours.

Replacing the power supply has fixed it, good as new. For a while I thought it might be the motherboard, so I'm happy to have got away with just a power supply. An old 300W ATX PSU I had down in my shed is doing the job just fine for now, but I think it might pay to get a gruntier one, just in case 300W isn't enough. It had a 400W PSU originally.

Just because it is nearly new does not guarantee reliability. If under warranty I would be getting it replaced personally.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
