My oldest has saved up and can now afford this system

It sounds good to me. But there is no operatign system there.
$1470 is including the operating system, then you need to add another $30 to get them to set it up for you.
$1500 then you have to add freight if you need it.
$1531 stills looks ok, but is getting more expensive.

It sounds ok, but check on Dick Smith - they have an Acer Aspire T180 for $1300 (including Windows Vista Home Premium and 320GB).

Actually disregard the Acer - it doesn't include the monitor...

Operating system is not required as my son has a legit copy of XP Professional.

He wants it to arrive all in parts so he can set it up (with my help).

Freight is not a problem as we can pick it up.

Hmmm, what would the cost be if we reduced the size of the monitor, no software and had to assemble it?

As you can see he is wanting to build a pc but I have talked into buying all at once so that he doesn't get caught out by some being incompatible etc

Tastech (Grant) is good to deal with. I have had many good experience from him as customer for few things that I made special orders for. Sometimes it may take a few days or a week or so to get the parts but it's worth the saving in dollars when it's not urgently needed.

Just because you order all the parts from the same place does not mean that they will all be compatible. The supplier is not obliged to test these for you. They only supply what you order. You're best to ensure they will all work before you order them. Even with the best will in the world, you can still fall foul of this (happened to me a couple of years ago in the UK - ended up putting it on eBay as the supplier wouldn't take it back as it wasn't faulty - it just wouldn't work on my PC configuration). One of the joys of having so much on offer for PCs, I suppose.
