Hi.

We want this year to convert all our paper receipts at home to scanned images, stored somewhere safely, but i want to be able to search for them without naming each file.

We will likely store in PDF scanned from our Epson All in One.

There used to be a google desktop search which would search inside of PDF's, but that is long since gone.

Anyone got something to replace it that will index network locations (No I don't want to use the HORRIBLE inbuilt MS Search).

We run Windows Desktop on multiple computers.

I just rename all the files, searching with "everything". Interested if you find a better solution though, but I doubt if any will be as reliable.

Everything Search does a subset of Lookeen, but is free. It searches drives for files by name instantly, but doesn't search Outlook or file contents. It's super useful though.

I've scanned in receipts for a number of years now and find it oodles simpler to arrange them in folders by store and name the files by date (you can set this up automatically) than try for some dodgy OCR solution. This will be especially true if you're scanning in a number of older receipts since the ink fades very quickly which will make any OCR quite tough.
