well recently i purchased an acer computer with a Celeron D cpu 3.06Ghz, 512 DDR ram and and agp 8x slot. I want to buy a new motherboard which will support my current cpu aswell as C2D Cpus but one that also takes DDRII ram and PciE because they are newer faster technology and the parts are always cheaper. does anyone have any suggestions about the board to purchase and from where? thanks to anyone who helps
You could try Gigabytes GA-X38-XXX range or Asus' P5E range Choosing whichever one best suits ur budget and/or what you're going to use it most for. It supports you current CPU and if you want to upgrade later it supports the new 45nm CPU's, DDR 2/3, PCI-e 2.0, eSATA etc. They are pretty pricey though, (well for me anyway) ranging from $300 odd to around $500.
Otherwise you can try P35 chipset boards like Asus P5K range. P5K range from $150 to around $500. They also support the 45nm CPU's, DDR2 and PCI-e X16
Hope this helps or gets u started

My pick for a motherboard would be the ASUS P5KR. I'm usually a big fan of the nForce chipsets but this board is excellent. Great price, lots of good features and it has been very reliable for us.
If you are not wanting to spend huge amounts of money but still want quality and performance then I would recommend it.
