CT2KIT25664AA667 4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM (this is the correct memory module i used crucials tool to get it)

I havent even bothered trying to connect anything else to this until i resolve the current problem. I have tried everything, replaced the motherboard tried one memory stick at a time and still nothing. I turn the system on and the fans work everything lights up but my flat screen just goes back into sleep mode and no beeps at all.

(when i had the harddrive fitted it had a red light next to the power button on the case)

I know if there isnt any beeps its failed its "post" and what i got from other forums is it maybe the bios needs upgrading but the asus website is down and how would i update the bios if the screen isnt working!?!?

I have to use the graphics card to put the vga socket in as there isnt a vga slot fitted on the motherboard, i have checked and triple checked the connections everythings fitted fine.

So far i think i can narrow it down to either the cpu the bios or the graphics card but id really could do with some advice.

Some of the Asus boards did need a BIOS update before theyd run Core 2 Duo correctly, so yeah, defintely give that a try. As for how to do it without a screen signal...hmm.. not sure on that one, Ill ask a mate who worked in a store and came across the bios issues more than me :)

Apart from that, strip everything out of it except for the video card. It should still give you a video signal (assuming the bios isnt at fault) but just stall with either beeps or display showing there no memory.

Failing that, check the PSU - maybe its not pushing out correct voltages.

You have the pci-express power cable from the psu plugged into the gfx card right?

Oh and you wont always get a beep. I've had alot of cases with no internal speaker :)

When I was putting my computer together a while back, I remember I put it all together and tried to start it up but nothing showed on the screen at all. It turned out to be due to the fact I had my monitor plugged into the DVI... no idea why that would make a difference but when I used the VGA port it came up and i could access my bios to set it up.

The geforce 8800gt only has dvi output it came with a dvi adaptor that i connected to my monitor cable. The power connecter is connected to the graphic card as well. i dont have the option of a using a vga socket as neither the motherboard or the graphics card have any.

Would buying a new monitor with dvi output work if that was the case. Otherwise whats my options?

Ah, well let's not resort to that yet. If you could borrow one off someone that would be better than spending the money on it just to test it out.

Just a couple of other things:

1) You've checked that you've got the right jumpers in all the right places on the motherboard? Always pays to double-check that you've got it right for your set up.
2) Have you put it in the right PCIe slot? Are your jumper setttings right for this?
3) Is there a built-in video on the motherboard? try connecting the monitor to that if there is one (I dont see an onboard video on it but i might as well make sure in case i'm looking at the wrong board)
4) If you can borrow someone else's video card, try plugging that in. or plug the Graphics/CPU/Memory one at a time into another computer and test that those are working..

From there you should be able to identify whether it's the graphics, CPU or memory that's the issue, if they all work on another computer separately. Start looking at the jumpers and other small stuff..

As a last resort, unplug everything, take it all out and put it back together again carefully. I also had an issue where I had one of the switches the wrong way around or on the wrong pins when I plugged them in and it took me an hour to work out why.

Is this a new build? I had the same problem with my Graphics Card. I had everything pluged in, but no lights, beeps or anything! I tried to install XP Pro SP1 - problem was it didn't have the PCI driver or someting in that version. I got a copy of XP Pro SP2 and everything went fine... Hope this helps...

Err... you might want to re-read the OP... he cant even get the system booted let alone have Windows issues :)
