I'm going to be getting a Mac and I am stuck between the 20in 2.66GHz and the 24in 2.8GHz. I don't know too much about computers and I was wondering what sort of a performace benefit will I see from going with the 2.8 over the 2.66GHz if any? Cheers.

The gains won't be huge, unless you are into editing video or photo manipulation. The real advantage you find with the 2.8GHz system is the 24 inch screen and better graphics card.

That's great, thanks for that. Should we excpect to see an improvement over our current laptop which has a 1.6Ghz Pentium M processor?

You should see a number of major improvements, firstly and most importantly you'll be running (in my opinion) the most advanced operating system in the world, OSX...I've been a PC user for years and still use one day to day at work, but most of my important work is all on the Mac, all home computers are Mac as well. You'll also notice better improvements due to faster and larger HDD, quicker and more RAM,faster front side bus, better video not to mention multi-core processor running at almost twice the speed....I think you are going to be in for a nice surprise!

Either model will run rings around the Pentium M all day long - you are gonna love it.

2.66GHz vs. 2.8GHz is not noticeable unless you are doing a decent amount of heavy mulltimedia editing, and waiting for it to complete.

20" iMac is 'really nice' and has 'wow' factor to sit at and use.
24" iMac is 'really awesome' and has 'ZOMG PONIES!!!111se7ven" factor to sit at and use.

YMMV

Thats like asking a Japanese teenage girl what she thinks of Hello Kitty, or asking someone from Dunedin what they think of sheep (Hi Braaaaaadley....).
