It is said that the PSU is the key to building a stable system.

Thus, I am something of a zealot when it comes to selecting PSUs. I stick to a small handful of brands; usually FSP/Fortron Source, Seasonic, Enermax; with consideration for Superflower or XFX if I ever had the opportunity. I went to go source a couple of new Seasonic PSUs, and now it seems like I am also being denied the opportunity to buy my usual favoured brands.

Does anybody have any insight/experience to what has happened here? It seems like these brands are disappearing off the the New Zealand market to me. Is it because they not popular enough? A classic island problem? Are these brands too reliable? Are their warranty arrangements not feasible?

On a related note, what is considered to be the reasonable lifespan of a computer power supply in accordance with the Consumer Guarantees Act, and would it be distinct or enforceable in comparison to a whole computer?

I recent noticed the lack of Seasonic PSUs and was also wondering what happened.

Judging by the Seasonic site, I think Computer Lounge may have been the distributor as I recall them being the only NZ store listed at the time. Now Insite is listed too, so it may be that the distributor has changed... or I'm remembering incorrectly and the Seasonic site is just out of date.

I get coolermaster ones because they have always had the cables that I wanted on them, and have never had one die on me. Got 400 or 450 watts in the clunker systems and a 650 in my now horribly obsolete gaming system which is now got an i3 9100 and a gtx970 in it after my last board failed on me. Only pulling 200 watts max from the wall that I have ever seen so hardly stressing it either.

None have died. I would expect 2-3 years on a cheapo PSU like a coolermaster to be reasonable.

Seasonic is my go to brand so following with interest.
