im in the process of selecting components for a new PC. Heres what im expecting to buy:

Im pretty sure the mobo and graphics and compatible but thought id make sure. Iv never bought an ATI card before. If the 4890 is lacking later, i can just add another one.

The VelociRaptors are pricey, but i couldnt resist hehe. Iv been wanting to get solidstate drives or SCSI for ages. These should be pretty quick in Raid 0. Hopefully they wont be too noisy. Ill store my data on 1.5TB seagate drives in Raid 5.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Well I can't answer your inital question, but I can give you a little reassurance about the 4890. I have one myself, with a duo 3.00ghz processor, and I can get WoW at more or less max settings 75fps easy, and so far have not had any issues with it. Also, with Catalyst Control Center and Easy Tune 6 its so easy to OC its not funny.

Sounds good. I think alot of these components lend themselves to overclocking well. Iv had a solid try at overclocking. Think i will on this system tho. Aparently the i7 can be clocked up to 4Ghz without much of a fuss.

Hey, wow thats a lot to spend on hard drives, personally I'd rather put that into the motherboard especially if you're keen to overclock.

The 4890 will be compatible with pretty much any x58 mobo, unless you're gunna run games at more than 1900x1200 or you wanna play crysis at max you won't need a 2nd one for a little while.

Yeah the i7 is very overclockable, got mine to 3.3 without breaking a sweat. If you want to overclock (or even if you don't) I'd look into a proper cpu cooler something like the thermalright ultra extreme 120 and possibly a case with more airflow, i7s run very hot otherwise.

Although it might seem like a good idea to try and get the cheapest deal possible at price spy most of the cheaper retailers are a pain to deal with and will give you grief if you need to return anything, it's best to get everything all from one store with a decent reputation and competent staff even if you gotta pay an extra $50.

I agree with samwoolf- i bought my entire rig from computerlounge, had absolutley no problems with them, got a small discount for buying everything and free shipping.

Iv just ordered it. I did go with computer lounge in the end. It seemed quite a bit more expensive but once you take shipping out and use a combo deal its not too bad. You can get price matches too, i got one for the case.

I ended up going for the P6T motherboard, and a sapphire 4890 in the end.

Woohoo this thing should rip, the last machine i built was almost three years ago. That cost much more, and it pales in comparison.
