Hi guys
Im new to this forum so i may sound noobss
I recently bought a new rig from t2t computers in Auckland for under $1000

Specs are:
Basic no brand came with the case PSU 400W prob usuable is much less, 350W?
AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 240 2.8ghz 2x1mb L2 cache
Foxconn M61PMV AM2+ mATX GF6100+ nF430
Asus 9800GT 1GB DDR3 HDMI
Seagate 500GB 3.5" SATA HDD 16MB Drive
Patriot Signature DDR2 2GB CL5 PC2-6400 x 2
LG 23.5 HD LCD screen

Also I have installed a clean version Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on it
When I try to play Prototype or Crysis Warhead even CS the game crashes with and error but sometimes the whole computer would stop and BSOD (Blue screen of death) would come up then restart it self.. This usually happens during busy usage but also happens when on standby...
I am suspecting the PSU atm so I have ordered a Thermaltake 700W Lite power... but the RAM is also on my replace list..
Could anything else be a problem? Like faulty motherboard?
I have updated the driver for my graphics card on nvidia.com.
Motherboard manufacturer does not seem to have any BIOS updates or drivers for Windows 7 currently...
I guess i am being punished for buying Foxcoon and Patriot equipment?
I also use an external 500GB HDD... and some occasional USB stuff....

Have you tried using the MS memory diagnostic tool? That will let you know if the ram, or ram slots are to blame.
Also, if you can get it to fault on a linux live disc to crash too, then it would point to a hardware fault, and depend on how recent you bought it, you can get t2t to fix it. That is assuming they did the build for you with hardware they suggested, as opposed to you ordering the parts yourself and asking them to do the build.

how do I do a MS memory diagnostic check? currently t2t is too busy and backlogged till early Jan sometime. Yea they did build and got all the parts themselves.
Sorry but I have no idea about linux :/... I think I will try with new ordered PSU first and if it persists.... RAM or Graphics card.

Just grab the latest Ubuntu, burn it to disk, and boot off the disc.

tried this. Memtest came back with a no problem. I recently went out to buy trend micro internet security pro2010 to update my virus system.
I still seem to be having bsods and many times firefox and ie won't start up (just crashes down)
My bsod message is followed:
STOP: 0X00000024 (0X00000000001904FB,0XFFFF86002FC4588,0XFFFF88002FB5EE0, 0XFFFF8800119111E)

Happened near the end of a virus scan and Windows defender scan.
Also happens when multiple software is in use...

I have crossed out any hardware errors... psu is ok, memory is ok, Graphics is ok, MoBo I have updated but don't know how to check... all cables seem to be in correct positions. HDD is ok.
Thanks for your help btw. i might have to result in taking it to technician....:(

The 0X00000024 error can indicate a file system problem. Seagate does a bootable version of its disk checker you could use to run diagnostics on the hdd outside of the Win7 environment just in case the disk itself it failing - even new ones can fail.

If that passes and you try Ross's suggestion of a Live distro of any Linux and run it for a while, then you can narrow it down to a Windows7 problem as opposed to a faulty hardware issue. Linux Live CDs (or thumbdrives) really are a great way of eliminating a hardware/OS problem - ok you might not get everything as you want it and you almost certainly won't get your games but you will be able to identify the cause of the problem and save yourself the wait and the cost of tech support !

Assuming seatools and a Linux show no problems, the best bet would be a totally clean Win7 install (onto a totally cleaned disk i.e. re-formatted); install the proper up to date device drivers and lastly any applications including your games, one by one. Then if the error returns you should be able to tell at which point and identify the culprit. As it's a relatively recent acquisition you shouldn't be losing too much by having to re-install the OS, but obviously try & back up any data files first (but make sure you have a good AV in place before restoring them just in case).
