At the moment i have a Compaq Q3120an with a basic 20" lcd (Q2009).
We are wanting to upgrade the monitor. The ones we've looked at have normal VGA connections as well as either HDMI or DVI-D.
The computer is'nt used for gaming, but we would like to watch dvd's etc on it using the PC.
Our grapics/video card does'nt support HDMI or DVI-D. My question is there a real noticable difference between HDMI and VGA?
If need be im happy to upgrade our video card, but why waste the money if i don't need too!

BTW the monitors we're looking at are AOC e2440vh or the AOC e2343fw

Any help appreciated :)

You should be finewith VGA.
HDMI/DVI-D are digital, but dont offer any big advantages for your sort of use

Ive ran a 24" monitor at 1920x1080 through VGA from my laptop for ages, works a treat for everything - gaming, high def video playback, etc

First question is whether your current video card can actually drive a 1920x1080 display.

I picked up myself an AOC 2436Vwh this week. You'd be hard pressed to find a better deal than these at present, I got mine wholesale but a quick look at Pricespy shows a heap of retailers around the $250 mark. Just don't visit Harvey Norman or you'll pay $100 more!

The video card is a nVidia GeForce 6150SE 430. Ive no idea if it can support
1920x1080.

From what i understand it is part of the motherboard?? Don't know weather that is normal
As you have proabably figured out im not all that computer savvy!..lol

It will support that resolution for video playback, so go right ahead. You won't get good performance from many games at full resolution with that card, but you can always run a lower res in game. Try it, get something better later if you need it.
