I am looking for some suitable bootable antivirus/recovery programs that fellow Geekzoners have had the most success with. Please let me know which programs you prefer

I like Spybot Search & Destroy. The new Beta seems to work well. They have a recovery CD you can burn which boots a reduced functionality Win7 just for virus and spyware scanning. The protection measures built into Spybot in combination with Firefox (no ActiveX) means you do not have to hog your PC with an "official" anti-virus. If you are disciplined with safe browsing and know where you get your downloads from, you're safe.

I have used malwarebyte along with MS Security av.

You can download a full working copy (14days). After the 14 days the resident part stops.

I use ESET Nod32, takes a lot less of memory compared to most AVs.

for data recovery, if your system is hosed, i recommend one of the boot on flash drive linux distros. get unetbootin to put the iso on a usb flash drive

puppy linux is best i think.

as far as antivirus goes, I havent used windows for about 5 years, so i have no idea.
