What do you think, is it worth updating to windows mobile 2003?

One of the main reasons I am investigating this is to use the program DVD to pocketpc which says operates only on the 2003 platform.

Are there other advantages? How about disadvantages?

Thank you!

Some users report a little improvement on performance, but it really depends on your Pocket PC model. There are a list of things changed that should be good for most users. For example if you run any program that uses the .NET Compact Framework. On Pocket PC OS 2002 you need to install a run time that uses quite a bit of memory. On Windows Mobile 2003 the framework is part of the OS, saving memory.

If you use wi-fi, the new wireless interface is better, remembering previous networks and access points configuration. You'll also have built-in ClearType (depending on model directly from the Settings application) and other enhancements.

I've upgraded my h3970 and it's very nice - didn't have a problem with it and run most of the programs I had before (except one, but that was an old program).

I have the iPAQ 5455 it worked great with 2002, but I kept hearing about the wonderful advntages of 2003. I bought and installed it. Now the iPAQ intermettently wakes up for alerts so I can't count on it as a wakeup alarm. This is ona few other forums, I am very disapponted with HP as I signed up for the alerts, updates and news about this model and haven't received a single alert! Yet I find these problems even on HP forum using a google search!
You get Media Player 9, and the net zero config. The wifi config didn't work until I loaded the update. Oh, they also decided to remove a signal strength meter from the wifi so you will get a connection but no clue as to what the signal strengh is.
You also get a new picture viewer which is nifty and quicker.

The Wakeup from sleep alert isssue is on several pocket PC's not just the iPAQs so its a WM2003 issue.
There is also a cool new game jawbreakers, but there aren't any instructions anywhere on how to play it?
I have not noticed any hugely significant performance boost wtih 2003 versus 2002.
Since I use the iPAQ everyday the wakeup issue really bugs me. Its been around since at least sept of 2003! I just sent my iPAQ back to HP to see if they can resolve this issue.
Oh, if you using the audio recording feature and have to much hissing noise try turning up the bitrate (16bit about 22k) and it will be better! That trick took two trips for my iPAQ back to HP with nothing being done until a tech support person suggested I try different settings!

I have owned
HP200LX, Newton 2000, NEC Mobilepro 450, PALM IIIe and now the iPAQ 5455
The newtons were great but bulky and not in color, the PALM worked fine until I broke the
screen (it wasn't in color either), I really like the iPAQ when it works!!!

Good luck
