Perhaps COM1 is in use by a modem? Also, COM1 and COM3 can conflict, so if you have a modem on COM3 this can cause a problem too.

Thanks Mauricio Freitas

I check my computer and the COM1 is free and the modem is using port COM3. But the ActiveSync show me the same error.

Thanks

Since the modem is on COM3 you'll may have this problem. What OS are you using? Older OS will use IRQ to control the COM ports. COM1 and COM3 use the same IRQ, meaning that if both are used at the same time things will not work ok.

The Modem (COM3) is using the IRQ 11 and COM1 is using the IRQ 4 and both case says not conflicts

Hi Cesar
I had the same problem last week. Mine happened because my desktop crashed while my PPC was still connected. I tried everything, including working through the Microsoft advice that you get to from ActiveSync, without success. So in the end I did a hard reset, and made the mistake of not backing up first, so I lost my appointments and contacts. But it isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. ActiveSync now works fine. I understand the problem that with no AciveSync, it's difficult to back up to the PC. But move as much as you can onto your SD or CF cards to avoid having to reinstall everything.

Hope this helps
Ben

Hi, I am new to the group. A friend from another group suggested I check out your group.
I am having trouble syncing with my desktop. I am getting frustrated at not knowing what to do next.
I have an IPAQ 3955 and no matter what I do I continue to get an error message saying the device was not detected.
I backuped all my information and did a hard reset. But to no avail. The only difference is the handheld responds now by saying the connection was lost.
I have Windows XP, had tried removing ZoneAlarm because of known issues but to no avail.
Doesn't seem to matter if I try using Com ports or USB.
I was able to connect a few times in the past and even used a Sierra Wireless card through Sprint. I got rid of that and wonder if that caused a problem on my handheld with syncing.
I would think doing the hard reset would have wiped out anything that shouldn't be there since I was selective in the information I backed up.

Any help would be appreciated.
