I just received my brother old IPAQ 4310.

I am fairly new to this and notice their is bluetooth and wifi. "B"

I cannot seem to connect wifi with my router "simple 64 bit wep", I type in my passphrase on the ipaq and nothing.

I have no problem connecting to the wireless router with my laptop or anyother device. "Regular DHCP"

Any ideas? if i turn off wep it connect fine..

Now my other question.. I want to use it mostly to send and receive mail. can this be done using wireless? or is bluetooth better?

One final question can this OS be upgraded?

Thank You all for you're help..

These are good Pocket PCs - but you can't upgrade the OS on these anymore.

Your problem sounds more like some compatibility problem. HP released many Wi-Fi updates so I suggest you download all of them from the HP Support site (if this model is still listed) and apply in chronological order.

As for synchronisation, if you are synchronising to a server, then WiFi is better. If you are synchronising to a PC then Bluetooth it's the option - although it's not as reliable or fast as the old USB cable.

You should select "Internet", regardless if it's at home or work.

"Work" is when you connect to a private network with its own DNS space and servers without top level domain (i.e. ".com" and so on).

Open the Wireless LAN configuration, delete the connection and let it find it again.

As for the hardware reset - I used to have the h4150, which is the same without the keyboard. I don't remember exactly but it would be something like pressing the first and last buttons in the front, then power on the device. Better you use a search engine to find it - look for "hard reset h4350".

Well I have excellent news.. it all works .. thank you soo much for the help..

I am now trying to tackle the bluetooth sync option.. since I plan on using this for sending and receiving mail

I assume I have to sync via bluetooth or craddle..

any other option to have the mail sent directly.

So far I can connect with the blue tooth but it gives me an error when i try to sync with the blue tooth..

any ideas on how to properly configure the bluetooth seems pretty straigt forward.

com 8 ot com 6 on my pocket pc.

I keep getting the following error when i try to sync.

"The requested service is not running on this device. PLease make sure the service is enabled on the device or select another one to continue."

I've placed the ipaq on the craddle and have partnered it.

Then I try to sync using blue tooth and keep getting the following.

Coms for Pocket PC "Bluetooth" on desktop.

Services appear to be Dial-up networking com8
and
Services Serial Port SPP Generic Serial com6

I am not sure how to proceed since it keeps giving me the above error...

I just noticed it's an Ipaq h4300 "I had it written down wrong" are they solid pocket pc?

Basically I want to be able to check my mail with it at home and have it send out as well .. instead of sync' on the craddle I could do it bluetooth soo all in one..

Any alternaties to this method are there better methods?
