I have an IPAQ 210, which I have paired with my Samsung a920 using Bluetooth.

I have set up the DUN on the IPAQ, using the Samsung phone as a modem.

I have tried MANY various configuration settings in an attempt to connect to my ISP through this setup, and no luck.

I tried many suggestions I read in this forum. Such as *99 and *99***[x]# and most of the time I get some error like I cant connect to that number

If I just put the phone number in for my ISP, it feels like it attemps to connect before being refused by the ISP modem.

I am on Windows Mobile 6, and I do not the the area to put in the extra string I saw in a forum.

Is this enough info for someone to be able to help?

Some more info:

This is how I set up the DUN

Enter name for the connection: PROFILE1
Select a modem: Bluetooth Dialup Modem
"NEXT"

Enter the number: 6135551234
(not using any dialing rules)
"NEXT"

User name: USER
Password: PASSWORD
Domain*: (left blank)

Advanced;
Use server-assigned IP address is selected
Use software compression and use ip header compression are checked.

WHEN I attempt to connected, this is what happens:

Connecting to: PROFILE1
Using: Bluetooth Dialup Modem
Dailing

~after about a minute~

Cannot Connect
Dialed: 6135551234
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed. Tap Setting.

Also a Bluetooth Window
MOBILE: Dialup Networking
Connection Failed
Details:
-Waiting for Device
-Connection established
x-Connection link disconnected prematurely

I will keep trying different settings...

When I attempt to connect to *99 or *99***1#, etc I get a No modem at above number message.

The Samsung A920 is a CDMA phone, so *99# will not work. You should use #777 for CDMA phones.

Next you need to check it actually supports data connections via Bluetooth. Many operators, mainly in the US, remove this capability from their handsets.

You will have to also check with your provider (which we don't know who is) if your account allows data.

And username and password will vary depending on your provider.

I use 295.ca as a dial up provider. (http://www.295.ca) I will try to find out if they do actually support bluetooth connections. What do you mean by "check if your account allows data" what kind of data? As for the user name and pass....wouldn't that be the same user/pass I would use when connecting from the modem in my laptop?

I tried :
Dialed #7776134824010 (613-482-4010 is the number of the ISP)
Error: No modem at above number.

OK, wierd, I obvously know a lot less about this than I thought.

I modified the settings:

Number dialed : #777

user name: my 295 user id
password: my 295 password
Domain: 295.ca

I was able to connect.

I now have mixed feelings about this. It appears as though my phone is not actually dialing a number, but instead is activating some network crap via the #777, then connecting to 295.ca. I was hoping to connecting to a number, as I could add a phone number to my account for unlimited calling. I am not sure I will be able to add something like a #777 number or 295.ca, heh. Any ideas on how the cell phone companies view these types of "calls"?

This is a data session and that's a packet switched connection. It allows for faster data transfer. The alternative is a circuit switched connection, which connects a modem to another - point to point.

Circuit switched connections are now uncommon in mobile data, and always limited to about 14.4 Kbps if you even managed to connect. They are not preferred because they tie circuits that could be used for voice calls for example.

When you connect to #777 (or *99# on GSM networks) you are using your operator as an ISP. The connection is charged on a traffic basis. Check that you have a data plan in your account, otherwise casual data can be really expensive.
