I have a 1940, a home PC running Win98SE with a Trend BT USB dongle. I have two other PC's in the house; all three are networked on Cat5 cable via a Netgear RP114 Switch/Router. The LAN connects to the outside world via a Motorola SurfBoard cable modem attached to the router to a cable 700k connection.

You've guessed it, no internet on HP via BT. Got it on ActiveSync by USB cable. I have read all the guides but they seem to refer to XP, 2000 etc - nothing that refers to my network topology. No DCHP, my PC is 192.168.0.3 the dongle is 192.168.0.10 and the router is 192.168.0.1. All the PC's use static IP's and have .0.1 as the gateway. I dont have ICS installed as it's not needed: so far !

Any help on configuring this n/w would be appreciated. I have BT up and running, ActiveSync works [guest on this PC as main account is at work] but no internet even with this............... File transfer works and Networking works apparently tho I seem not to be able to do anything with this............Help please ! Ta !

The network topology will not impact - if you're using Windows 98 SE you have to install ICS from the OS CD. Then it will require the address 192.168.0.1, like the guides. If this can't be done, check our guide showing how to use the NAT32 software router.

Mauricio,

Thanks for the reply. I have installed NAT32 but it still doesn't work. So I'm going to take it up with them..........

They say my BT adaptor should have a seperate IP address [no problem] and no gateway. Every time I try to disable the DNS on the BT adaptor, I lose it also from the TCPIP config of my PC NIC and thus my primary internet connection goes down - the two seem bound together in some way - is this normal ? or is it further complicated by the fact I'm using a USB BT dongle - I don't know: the more I learn about networking the less I seem to know !! LOL
