For the last few day my N95 has been acting a little odd.
On the 'screen saver' it shows that I have messages, but when I slide the phone open there isn't an icon on the display to say that I have a message. but when I go to messages, you see the new message icon. In addition my phone doesn't beep either.
But wait there's more!
Last night, I went to send a message. I pressed the message short cut. The screen goes clear (can still see the theme background). a few seconds later, a dialog appears saying "messaging: Already in use!"
I've tried both the hard and soft resets (with and without the memory card), and still the same issue.
Any suggestions? I've tried the net and there isn't anything usefull.
Yep, I have had a similar experience. Usually my N95 works flawlessly (thanks to the firmware updates) but does go funny when my SMS inbox reaches the 2000 mark.
Try to keep your stored texts down to around 1000 or so and make sure you have the latest firmware (v21).
I was just thinking the other day that I ought to clear out the inbox. I didn't have anywhere near 2000 messages though, but I did have a video (or two). An inbox memory issue?
I'm running V20.0.015 firmware. I changed the firmware (from vodafone) earlier this year.
Sadly I cant get anywhere near the inbox to delete anything.
The only solution that was available (after searching the net) was to re-flash my N95 ROM.
So I killed to birds with one stone and upgraded to the v21.0.0.16 firmware (from 20.0.0.15).
For one horrible moment I though I was going to have the same problem, no sooner had I pressed the 'messaging' button, things froze! But thankfully it was only 'welcome to N95...' butting in, Phew!!!
The only conclusion that I arrive at is that the ROM corrupted itself. It is not a nice thought that my N95 can suddenly become unstable like that (but answers why my N95 was so dodgy after I first bought it though), but a corrupt ROM is the only thing that could possibly survive a hard reset. I'm not sure what the catalist was to 'unhinge' my phone? may be I had far too much (data size) in my inbox? certainly be keeping it cleaner in future!!
The phone flashed perfectly (althought it's not a task I undertake willingly).
