Hello there

  I am experiencing some issues with our Exchange 2003 SP2 and WM6 staying connected.  It will stay connected for some time but then drops.  We are baffled by the behavior and was wondering if you might be able to shed some light on this issue. 

We checked the HTTPERR.LOG file and it shows the the CONNECTION_DROPPED regularly.  Right now we are having our cellular carrier swap out the device since it regularly toggles between EVDO and 1X.  According to the provider that could be the cause.  I am baffled by this behavior and really can't seem to make any progresss.

I had a similar problem some time ago - it turns out the mobile operator had some routers configured to terminate http connections that lasted for longer than [x] seconds.

This wasn't solved until they changed their configuration, and never had a problem since.

Of course this could be on your network as well, so before pointing this to the operator, try checking that your own firewalls and routers are not terminating long connections - you will have to ask your IT administrator to check this.

If changing your own firewalls/routers is not an option - and problem having a mobile operator changing theirs is probably certainly not in some cases, then another option would be to reduce the time the connection is alive. This will increase mobile data traffic just a bit, but may solve the problem. Try reducing by 10% each time until you find the right point. This is a registry setting on your Exchange server.
