Hi there, I have a HTC touch dual, and a couple of issues related to sounds on the phone, everything is working fine( phone vibrate, I can answer and talk, etc), but ring tones, speaker, alarms, music, etc is not working , actually I noticed that a couple of time the ring tone worked and after a while stopped again.
at XDA developers Forum there are some "cooked" ROMs that suppose to fix this common issue at HTC touch phones with specific radio versions.

DOes anyone here have a applied a cooked ROM before ? I had a look on a how-to available at the XDA forum, and I'm afraid of this will make my phone another expensive papwer weight. :)

you could try, but first I would try a hard reset sounds like a 1.58 radio stack works well with the htc touch dual. Just be very careful and follow instructions. You can brick your device ..

I've tried multiple ROM and Radios from XDA and different cooks on my JasJam and never had a problem. I did initially change the bootloader to one they recommdened to prevent bricking my device. I think it was called Hard SPL, basically a recoverable bootloader.

There were very good instructions in the stickies on XDA, just look for your device. Is the touch dual also know as Nike (Nikki)??

that's right Nike/Niki, I had 2 hard resets before, and still have the same issue. Will work out the instructions at XDA, and give a go to see what happen. fingers crossed. :) Thanks.,

Have a read through all of the posts too and see if you can see any from NZ that have tried. The radio ROMS I tried gave varying results, from not working at all, to using too much battery and finally working ok.

The cooked ROMs are also good and bad, some have too many features and I found not to be stable enough where as others (from the good cooks) worked brilliantly. Im currenty running a CRC rom cooked up by CRCinAU, works brilliantly although has to be reset every now and again. I'm not sure if I can put that down to the cook or to WM6.1 running on my JasJam but doesnt worry me too much as Ill replace it shortly.

Before upgrading take a few benchmarks that are importnant to you too, like touch speed, startup, reboot times, signal strength, wifi operation that kind of thing and also, if you can, dump your original roms so you can revert to these if you have to. This will help you determine if the ROM is REALLY an upgrade or not.

Basically I did A LOT of reading of those wikis and forums before jumping in, as there is information all over the place.

I had a jasjam before my blackberry what radio are you running? 1.56 whatever was good for me.

XDA ROMs are awesome - I've used them on Himalaya and now Nike/Niki and the y work fantastically. Just follow the Hard-SPL instructions to the letter and you'll be fine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
