Hey guys,

I got a E63 three weeks back and have been loving it!

I use it all the time to check my emails and go on the web sometime.

However I've noticed that I don't think I'm connecting via 3g.

I used the setup wizard which came with the phone and that set up the network settings for Vodafone, and I also using Vodafone's website to send through the settings but it still said it was gprs rather then 3g.

I'm pretty sure I'm not on 3g because I'm in town most of the day and it takes about 20 seconds to download about 60kb worth of data which seems like gprs speeds to me.

All help is appreciated.

It will be the same for the e71 since they're the exact same phone internally.

The logo top left will either say 3G or else it will be an antenna looking symbol - the latter indicates 2G.

Dammit, so yea must still be on 2g. Any suggestions on how I can enable 3g?

Where are you using it? It should switch to 3G if it is available however a lot of places are not covered by Vodafones 3G.

Have you checked its a Nokia E63 that supports 900/2100mhz WCDMA

Sorry what are you saying with the pardon? Vodafones coverage is made up of both 3G and 2G, mostly 2G from my experience. Are you saying that is not the case?

3G coverage on Vodafone NZ does not mirror image 2G

Many places around NZ have 3G only sites example

Waldronville Dunedin has a 3G 900mhz only site there are more but to busy to list right now

Best idea is to check the coverage tool on the Vodafone site

www.vodafone.co.nz/coverage this breaks down 900/2100 3G

Ok well I was in town today (Auckland) and I figured out that you have to turn the phone to UTMS mode (it was on dual band before)

However I get no signal, I can manually look for networks and I can only find Telecom not Vodafone.

Anyway I can fix it?

As asked above what Model E63 are you using?

Answer the question(s) from above.

Given this information:
E63-1 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 900/2100
E63-2 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/1900
E63-3 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/2100

My guess is the sticker under your battery says E63-2 which means it will only get 3G on Telecom in NZ, not Vodafone NZ ever, anywhere.

Dammmit, yea got a E63-2.

That sucks.

I got in the states on special for $150 so it was definatley worth it but its a shame I can't get 3g.

If you dont want to go with Telecom I am sure that you could sell it and get something that will work on Vodafone.
