Hi, I read a couple of threads in this forum about problems connecting to a K700i using an IPAQ 2210 Handheld PC. I followed the suggestions made and tried a number of different things, but I'm still getting "the answering modem has disconnected, please check your settings" "DISMISS."

I've been using the IPAQ 2210 and K700i together via bluetooth for at least 6 months without ANY problems, but last weekend it stopped working!

Here's my products and how they're set up:

Sony Ericsson K700i

Main Menu -> Connectivity -> Data Comm. -> Data Accounts:

I have 3 entries.

1) VFNZ Internet (External ID 1, APN: internet)
2) VFNZ Gateway (External ID 2, APN: internet)
3) MyVF WAP GPRS (External ID 3, APN: live.vodafone.com)

Do these seem correct? I believe I should be using 'VFNZ Internet'. ID 1.

IPAQ 2210

Start -> Settings -> Connection Tab -> Connections

The entry that used to work has the following settings. I did not change any of the settings on either device!

Name:Vodafone GPRS
Bluetooth Dialup Modem selected from list

NEXT >>
Number to dial: (*99#) but I tried (*99***1#)

NEXT >>
Username: (blank)
Password: (blank)
Domain: (blank)

ADVANCED >>
Baud Rate: (56700)
Wait for dial tone before ringing: (Ticked)
Wait for credit card: (0 secs)
Extra dial-string commands: (blank) but I tried using (+CGDCONT=1,,"internet")
Cancel if not connected in (120 secs) (ticked)

PORT SETTINGS >
Data Bits: (8)
Parity: (None)
Stop Bits: (1)
Flow Control: (Hardware)
Terminal; Use before connecting? (No); Use after connecting? (No); Enter dialing commands manually? (No)

TCP/IP >
Use Server Assigned IP Address: (Selected)
Use specific IP address (blank) but I tried (172.30.38.3)
Use Slip: (Unticked)
Use software compression (Ticked)
Use IP header compression (Ticked)

Servers >
All of these are empty

FINISH

Does anyone in New Zealand know why this isn't working?

The vodafone site doesn't even have my pda and phone models for their setup wizard. I find the vendors of my products lacking support, I didn't think they were that old ;-)

You can try by changing the init string to Z;+CGDCONT=1,,"internet". It seems all these new Sony Ericsson and Motorola phones now need a reset (Z) string...

No spaces, exactly like that. I put it in and it still won't work. Should the APN be something other than just "internet"?

Also should my phone be set to GSM only, or GSM and GPRS?

The GSM only/GSM and GPRS setting is to have the phone always connected and will not impact on this.

Have you checked with Vodafone that your account is indeed registered to use GPRS? Sometimes they have problems on their side too.

You were correct.

I had a gprs on-account data plan and changed it back to prepay. They removed the on account plan but didn't replace it with anything. They just put it right for me over the phone and now it's working again!

I always do this. I always think the problem's at my end! Anyways, I'm sorry for the trouble. Problem solved.
