We are looking at the Falcon as a CDMA data device for field work (using a protective rugged case). Can anyone advise on its suitability. I understand it has an internal battery only, so one issue might be having to recharge the unit - how often ? We would have it "always on" but only sending/receiving short bursts of data. Would this use much battery life ? Help appreciated.
Battery life on a PDA will be shorter than your standard phone. If I use my Harrier as a modem for my tablet PC I have to recharge it every day - but have in mind it'will be in an always connected state, transmitting and receiving. In your case it doesn't look like this is needed.
The PDA is not always on. Pocket PC are in general in sleep mode, until you press the power button. Of course the phone part of Pocket PC Phone Edition is always connected unless you turn its radio off.
As an option, there's a new Symbol Pocket PC Phone Edition, CDMA based that apparently was certified for use in New Zealand - the first outside USA. Try contacting Telecom Advanced Solutions, or post a new thread on the CDMA forum asking about it - I am sure someone will find you...
