OK. I have a SE v800 and I am on T-Mobile (USA) network, and I pay the extra money for the full (VPN so called) internet access. (The phone is the UK, not the Japanese version, has not been debranded, yet). I can use the phone to send and receive email (through my own mail server, not tzones) and surf to websites. I can also use it to connect my PowerBook G4 to the internet. That all works.

Now I am trying to use it to connect my Tungsten T3 Palm device over Bluetooth to the internet. I downloaded the latest Phone Link stuff from palm today and installed that on the phone. I go to the Phone Link app and I set it up so that it is using the v800 and T-Mobile VPN GPRS. When I click connect, it sits there about 90+ seconds doing an intialize for 5 secs and then "signing on" for the rest of the time (85+ secs), and then says, "Error: timeout (0x1212). The phone shows the bluetooth talking icon but never tries to connect -- never gives the connecting message, like when I do it from the Mac.

This has got to be easier. This T3 won't connect using the Palm Wifi 802.B card unless there is no security at all (no WEP, even though it supposedly supports WEP) and I have never gotten it to work with any of my GPRS services phones either. It does sync to the Mac over BT, and I can use it with the Tom Tom GPS over bluetooth.

Any ideas on how to get this to work?

Chad

Have you checked our Bluetooth Guides? You might have a couple of tips on the Palm section there.

"Have you checked our Bluetooth Guides? You might have a couple of tips on the Palm section there."

I hadn't when I posted but quickly found them and tried a few things. Still no luck, but different responses.

I will post various things I have tried and the results in case it spurs anyones memory...

Thanks

OK, here are the different things I have tried and the results. I will post each try as a separate reply since there are several tries.

The first one: using the pal supplied Phone Link, I answered the questions appropriately and then tried to use their setup.

Their setup resulted in a "Connection" called LAN V800 and that connection was defined as

Connect to: Local Network
Via: Bluetooth
Device: V800
--
Speed 57,600
Flow Control: Automatic

--

network details

Connection type: PPP
Idel: 3 min
Query DNS: checked

IP address: checked automatic

Login script:

GPRS4
Wait For: OK
GPRS1
Wait For: OK
GPRS2
GPRS3
GPRS5
GPRS6
Wait For: CONNECT
Delay: 2
GPRS8
GPRS9
Delay: 1
End:

-------------------------------

The results of this (from the network log)
[phone did not even attempt to try -- T3 and phone talked a bit -- T3 gave "Error: timeout (0x1212)"]

Connect Log

[GPRS4 OK]

R: AT\r\r\nOK
[GPRS1 OK]

R:

Err: 0x1212

Gateway address: 0.0.0.0

---------------------

It seems that Palm got their T-Mobile connect data screwed up.

When I follow the instructions on Palm and GPRS phone from the "Bluetooth Guides" here, I have the following results
--

Basically following this guide using the TMobile access point and trying it with both +CGDCONT=1,,"internet3.voicestream.com" and +CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet3.voicestream.com" which I saw in my Mac connection script (which works) and also in some Google stuff elsewhere.

and using phone number *99***1# (and also 2# 3# 4# 5# 6# to try various profiles in the phone)

no login script

The phone tries to connect and fails. The T3 says "Error: Incomplete setup. Please check your network setup"

Network log:

LCP->CfgReq
LCP<-CfgReq
LCP->CfgRej
LCP->CfgAck
LCP<-CfgReq
LCP->CfgAck
LCP Up
CHAP<-Req
LCP->TrmReq
LCP<-TrmAck

Service Name:
Local IP address: 127.0.0.1
Gateway address: 0.0.0.0
DNS addresses:

---

Same as above but with the following login script (which I got from a forum thread I think somewhere in here)

The phone tries to connect and fails. The T3 says "Error: Timeout (0x1212)"

Send: CR
Delay: 1
Send: CLIENT
Wait for: CLIENTSERVER
End:

The network log says using [] to represent a single "box" character

Connect Log

S: ^M
S: CLIENT
R: ~[]}#@!}!}"}
}9}#}%B#}%}(}"}'}"}"}&}}}}
}%}&\x12o/-D2~~[]}#@!)!)#}

more stuff that is the same or very similar to the last two lines above repeated

Combining the two, ie

"Basically following this guide using the TMobile access point and trying it with both +CGDCONT=1,,"internet3.voicestream.com" and +CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet3.voicestream.com" which I saw in my Mac connection script (which works) and also in some Google stuff elsewhere.

and using phone number *99***1# (and also 2# 3# 4# 5# 6# to try various profiles"

and using the supplied login script from palm (which I also saw in another forum somewhere)

Login script:

GPRS4
Wait For: OK
GPRS1
Wait For: OK
GPRS2
GPRS3
GPRS5
GPRS6
Wait For: CONNECT
Delay: 2
GPRS8
GPRS9
Delay: 1
End:

Results in

[GPRS4 OK]

R: ~[]}#@!}!}"}
}9}#}%B#}%}(}"}'}"}"}&}}}}
}%}&\x12o/-D2~~[]}#@!)!)#}
