Lately, when I have connected my ipaq 2210 to EITHER my home or office computers, the activsync recognizes the partnership and goes into the "looking for changes" mode. After about 10 seconds, it disconnects, having not finished the "looking," without any sync. The fact that it is with both computers leads me to believe that something is wrong with the PDA settings (or whatever).

Solution needed ASAP please.

Welcome to Geekzone...

Are you using the same cable to connect to both computers, or each one has its own cable? Are you both cases connecting directly to a USB port on your computer? Those devices don't like USB HUBs (even the powered ones).

It could be a hardware problem (unlikely) but it sounds like a software problem (if the previous paragraph doesn't point a problem).

Perhaps the device is running low on memory. Two things to try: a soft reset, and clear the Pocket Internet Explorer cache (open Pocket Internet Explorer, Options and Delete Files).

Wow - thanks for the quick reply.

Each computer has its own cable. No hubs.

Could be memory. Cleared the cache and cookies and took out a game. Still no go. I have a bit over 9 in storage and about 12 in program.

I tried syncing just Notes to see if one of the features is the problem. The blue bar in "looking for changes" got a bit longer, but then disconnected.

OK - me again, problem not solved. My IT person tried working on this and thought it was the ipaq itself, which I concur. I spent some time on HP chat which helped somewhat. I am out of waurentee, so they could only help so much.

Here is where I am at. the next thing to try is a hard reset. However, my calendar needs to be saved somehow. There is not enough space to do in in the ipaq file storage, so I did a back up (I hope the right files) onto a sd card. The idea is that I do a hard reset and then bring the data back from the sd card. However, I am not confident of what I have done, so I am wondering if there is a way to take the backup data (.pbf) and bring that into my pc outlook, just so I know that the data is somewhere.

If I loose the calendar in my ipaq, I am in big trouble. Can you suggest how I bring that data into my pc outlook from the sd card, since syncing is not an option. Or is there another way I can accomplish the same thing?

The iPAQ comes with a Backup and Restore program. Is this the one you're using? Check that it has options to restore only certain file types/database types. You don't want to do a full restore in case it brings back the settings that caused these problems.

yes - I think it can back up selectively. I am not sure, however, what I want and what I don't want - at least the names of those files.

You probably want only the databases - nothing else, not the registry. Then after the hard reset, restore these databases and when creating a new Partnership with ActiveSync select the Merge option - this might create a few duplicate items if you already have them on your Microsoft Outlook.

Also this may not be a risk-free operation...
