Hi people:
I have iPaq h2210 and I can successfully sync it to my new laptop (Win XP) and use Activesync normally, but when I try to transfer music via Windows Media Player 10, the player will not recognise the existence of my h2210. It says "No device has been detected. Press F5 to refresh the player". Nothing. Nada. I press F5 repeatedly, then I offer the laptop a nice gin and tonic to refresh it, and now I am thinking of hosing it down with a nice bucket of iced water to refresh it good and proper!! However, I am so far restraining myself because I sense somehow that it would be unhelpful.....
I didn't have this trouble with Win 98 and the earlier versions of WMP. Has anybody found a solution?

Hi, had the same problem with my hx2490. The hx2490 synced well with the desktop but was unable to sync with the Windows Media 10 desktop program. After exhausting a whole bunch of solutions, none of which worked, I ended up reinstalling ActiveSync 4.0 on my desktop and all was fine.

Windows Media 10 instantly recognized my hx2490. You may want to give this a try and good luck.

Thanks Giannotti1.... however, your iPaq is running Windows Mobile 5 and I rather think the solution will be different for a 2003 machine... However, maybe installing Activesync 4.0 will help. Before I go ahead, though, have you had any 'issues' with Activesync 4.0? I hear that it has some instabilities?

You guys should use ActiveSync 4.1 if you have a Windows Mobile 5.0 device. Otherwise, stick with ActiveSync 3.8.

ActiveSync 4.x adds no new feature that benefits Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition or earlier.

Yeah... I found that out when I read that on the Microsoft Website's information on Activesync. I was actually using 3.7 and I have upgraded to 3.8 with no appreciable difference at all and no success in solving my problem.
It seems to be a WMP 10 prob.. or maybe XP.
Do you know if I can 'downgrade' my WMP to an earlier version?

All solved! I had been syncing using Bluetooth and I had figured that if it has synced OK via Activesync, then it should work OK with WMP. Wrong... I needed to connect via the CRADLE to successfully transfer music files via Media Player. Voila! have music!

Synchronising music file via the cradle and ActiveSync is painfully sloooww... I copy my Windows Media audio and video files directly onto a SD card via a card reader.

True.... that would work fine, thanks. But the one big advantage of copying music via Windows Media Player is that WMP's compression as pretty good. A CD compresses down to 14 to 20 megs with very little loss of quality. There's some loss, of course... but I am generally amazed at how much music I can get into a 1 gig card via WMP

Yeah, I'm using a 512MB SD card. I've ripped my CDs in Windows Media Audio (vbr) at 135-215Kbps. Roughly 7hrs of music on the card without compromising the audio quality too much. Who needs an iPod when you can use an iPAQ and a SD/CF card, eh? :)
