My next door neighbour has an ipaq 1950 and recently she added a 256MB Sandisk SD card to keep her photos on. She is finding that while the card is in the slot, she is losing power, even when not actually using the ppc. For example, yesterday she said the power was 93% in the morning and by late afternoon, it was down to 54%!!!! If she takes the card out, there's no problem.

Any ideas as to why this bizarre behaviour could be happening?

Every time the Pocket PC wakes up - for an alarm, or something else, the drivers are loaded and the card is read. Probably this uses more battery than before.

Yeah, but I don't have this problem with my 4350. All she has on it are her photos and she hasn't looked at those for a while. She doesn't have any programs or utilities on the card.

It can't be normal to lose this much battery power, just because a card's in the slot - can you think of anything else?

P.S. Could it just be that the 4350 is more efficient?

There is a Firmware update availble on hp site that may fix this. You can download it here:

It states that it fixes:
"Restores the ability to Power On the handheld after it becomes locked in Standby mode with an SD Card inserted in the handheld. When the handheld is in this locked state, it does not Power On with the Power button and the battery may become discharged."
