I have an IPAQ 4150 running microsoft pocket PC V. 4.20.0 (build 14053) and I have been having problems with Activesync.  My computer seems to be unable to recognise the IPAQ as it says a USB device has malfunctioned and cannot be installed.  I tried deleting it and reinstalling but to no avail.

I also tried upgrading to Activesync 4.2but that did not make any difference.  I then found on the HP website that they recommend using only Activesync 3.8.  However I cannot find anywhere I can download this version.

Would be grateful for asny ideas.

ActiveSync 4.2 will work with your iPaq, although it's really recommended that you install the original ActiveSync distributed on the product CD, and then update to ActiveSync 3.8

In any case, check that you are not using a USB Hub, make sure the USB Power Management (Device Manager on your PC) is not checked to allow the device to be powered off by the system, and make sure there are no firewalls blocking the ActiveSync program.

Thanks

Unchecking the box made a big difference and now I can synchronise again.

This brings up an issue-yesterday I was trying to find AS 3.8 for an older PPC and indeed it was hard to find a downloadable version of 3.8 that could be downloaded. Microsoft where most of the links went to seemed to be down. Of course after a few weeks after I deleted it off my system!!

The install files for Activesync 3.8 and the latest version as well are two of the tools I carry round on my USB thumb drive...
