As I read the paper http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10804679 i see EA looks to be moving into more mobile content and away from package content. With the various rumors about a new gen of consoles coming on the market (PS4 in 2013 so they say) and the fact that the PC Desktop is supposedly dying out, where is gaming going?
Is it going to be a place where DLC rules, with the ability to play all games on what ever gaming console you have?
If PS4 fails will SONY just cut their losses and pull out of the gaming market (like they may do with their TV production arm)?
With the tablet becoming the computer of choice, will people just go to the Desktop PC setup were you yourself can up grade at any time and play online for free to be their gaming console? (I know hardcore gamers already do have gaming computer, it is more for the casual gamer) And will any decrease in demand for console units lead game developers to concentrate there efforts on PC games, so they aren't throwing money down the next gen game hole of a console system that isn't profitable?
And will there be a time where all of the above is just old hat and an all encompassing system be built into what will be our TVs that will handle everything from gaming, web browsing, downloading of content and telly watching? Much like how the smart phone has become our clock, camera, note pad, map, compass etc, and telephone.
Or has this all been discussed before in a thread I haven't seen yet? And will people still just go out and buy whatever is new just cause they want to?
