mattRSK: No it wont play those. You can use something like PS3 media server to stream them from your computer though.

bazzer: Yep, MP4 will work fine. If the FLV has H.264 video you can easily extract the streams and remux to MP4 but since you can usually just grab the MP4, I'd do that. Check here the different formats.
I've never found renaming MKV to AVI to work, and I can't really believe it would. Have you actually tried it with any success? You can usually (losslessly) remux MKV to M2TS (I use tsmuxer, it takes just a few minutes on my slow machine).

About half the files have worked that way, the other half I converted over. Although these were all running through Windows media sharing. These days I just transcode everything using Tiversity
