Hiya
I'm wanting to start gaming (I'm more into fantasy/nonviolent games than shootemups). Which console would be best for me to start on, or doesn't it matter? Nice graphics are important to me, and I'd also like to try some multiplayer games. (Saw Journey at an exhibition and would really like to play it). Computerwise, I use a Mac. Any other advice for a complete noob gratefully received. Thanks for your help!

What do most of your friends play on? That might be important as you might want to play together.

Gaming PC offers the best graphics of course out of the console lot. Have a look at exclusives available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Wii U.

I vote for Xbox One. Titanfall (available on PC too btw), Halo, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5, Plants vs Zombies.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I've not bought a current gen console, am hoping to buy a Steam box when they are all officially released etc. Seems in many ways to be the best of both worlds. Convienience of a plug and play console with the ability to play "pc" games. I really like the look of the prototype Steam controllers.

Then you've probably got the best gaming machine there is. Depending on the model, not only can you play Mac games (although usually late in arriving, they do then come with many of the add-ons PC users have to pay extra for), using Boot Camp you can install Windows and play PC games, and then there's a multitude of emulators around for playing games from older consoles / handhelds and arcade games. :-)

My first thought is PS3. You can get cheap and there is already an awesome backlog of games you would play. Great if you don't have friends who already have another platform so you don't need to follow them. Especially if you're just getting into the groove I wouldn't invest a huge amount in a brand new console just yet.

For a MAC user, a very good MMO just moved to be available for you.

Try DDO ( Dungeons and Dragons online) . Free to Play, based on 3rd edition rules of D&D, so if your love of fantasy came from reading / playing D&D, might be one to try.

Really depends on your tastes, but personally, other than The Last of Us, everything else worth playing is for PC, and much of it isn't for consoles.

you could also have a look at elder scrolls online, due to be released in a few days, that works on windows and osx, also coming to consoles in a few months but (pc master race get it first obviously) ;)

I hear Microsoft might be making the Xbox One backwards compatible which is something new gen consoles need to do a lot more of...

And besides, you have a great concept like Titanfall on it =D

Thanks - actually everyone has recommended everything now at this point I think, might just blindfold myself and stab a pin! Important thing is just to get started gaming now I think.

Get a PC, You can scale it up or down. If you keep individual components current you wont ever need to spend that bulk $700 for a console.
