First time post so go easy.

Can the mmo SWTOR be played over ADSL broadband connection? This is the only other connection I can get in my area apart from vodafone cable.

I currently have vodafone lightspeed cable 50mbs down / 2mbs up broadband, most of the time it is stable but during peak evening hours when I like to play, it will have high latency spikes. The tech support has been ongoing with vodafone (month long) to the point where they do not write back to me and using their website speed test I have captured 0.42 mbs down, at this point it kicks me out of the game. If there was any alternative connection I would have switched months ago, would like to try another provider as vodafone has been disappointing since the takeover from telstraclear from my experience. I don't want to get started on the hour long waiting times.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes it can.

Personally I would tough of the current issues with Cable at night but as an MMO player I can see how they would be frustrating to you. Have you been seeing any improvements over the last few days? A number of people have reported better speeds and I have also seen improvements in my connection.

Try use Leatrix Latency Fix. I play FFXIV and it is a lot more sensitive to latency, I'm on Vodafone Cable (Riccarton) with 100Mbps. I connect to EU servers and seem to be doing well.

A
nd if you getting 0.42Mbps (from Vodafone speed test?) you may want to check to see if your router has updated firmware, and perhaps connect directly to the cable modem and do a speed test to confirm - both with the game and speed test site.

Hi Brum, no I haven't noticed any difference but over the last week I have been busy with work. I did get disconnected once last night for the first time in a week.

Hi Chief, I have given that software a go. I already use PingBetter so I will try out both and see what happens. I am in Hornby and was thinking of going up to the higher speed of 100 down / 10 up to see if it will help, I did ask vodafone to do it and they confirmed but they even failed to do that right. I will see how it goes this week.

Thanks for the replies, it is pretty frustrating and the though of just cutting out the mmo and vodafone has crossed my mind till fiber is installed in my area but will persist for now.

ADSL will be fine for any current MMORPG, unless there are fundamental issues with the connection (such as you are having with your cable), or you have a bunch of other users (e.g. torrenting) using the connection concurrently.

Definitely double check by plugging your computer straight to the cable modem and check its connection to confirm you're getting full 50/2 speed - and even play the game for a while with that set up.

I had similar issue few years back and turned out that the router I was using was incapable of pushing the processing and caused the speed issue. Do this to eliminate the issue on your side as much as possible.

If the connection on direct cable modem connection is exhibiting similarity to the router set up, then it is likely the cable service is at fault then you can go back to Vodafone and let them know it is not performing well and request for a tech visit.
