HI.

I am looking to buy a gaming laptop somewhere in the next 2 weeks.

My current  laptop is an Alienware 14X from the year 2012 and needs replacing.

I hear that Alienware is overpriced and i was wondering if you guys could recommend me a good alternative.
I'm looking for a 17 or 15 inch.
AT least 12 GB of ram
I was thinking of getting a Nvidia 980M but maybe there is a cheaper alternative that is as good as this one.

Thanks in advance.
Regards Andy Tellier.

timmmay: Lenovo gaming laptops.

You can get 17'' laptops with Nvidia GTX960M for about half the price. I got myself an Acer Aspire Nitro V Black Edition with the same GPU, worth max NZ$1800 new.
There's a new range of laptops sporting a GTX980 (non M, rather the desktop version!). With your budget I would certainly look out for those

I've got an Alienware 14 and it is great! I wouldn't put it into the "overpriced" category just yet.

Unfortunately they're not available yet, maybe Q1 2016, but if you can wait, I wouldn't go for anything less. Here's a list of the early models

http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-is-putting-desktop-caliber-gtx-980-gpus-in-laptops/

  • Asus GX700
  • Clevo P775DM-G
  • Clevo P870DM-G
  • Gigabyte Auros RX7Y4
  • MSI GT72
  • MSI GT80

This one will be the first mobile GPU to support Oculus Rift, nice to have for a future appkication
