Hi.

I just bought a new pair of Headphones for gaming and one of the preferred options (for 7.1 Surround) is Optical. My 5.1 Speakers are already connected this way via my PCI Sound card, and I was wondering about whether it was a bad idea (tm) to enable the onboard sound (realtek 7.1) to connect my headphones to?

I have W10.

MB is ASUS Z87-Pro with ALC1150 8 Channel HD Audio Codec.

Why would it be? It's pretty easy to switch between sound outputs in Windows 10 (well the build coming August 2nd) as you can choose which output you would like from the actual sound icon in task bar, rather than right clicking and going to playback devices. Give it a go regardless.

thanks yeah, I saw that change in the insider previews build I was running. Needs some polish but it's a nice feature. Enabled and working well.

My main concern was around driver conflicts, but everything seems to be working fine.
