Got this free with my PS Plus membership and so far liking it, except combat where it seems that even though I have the beginning set of weapons I can't really kill anything even with 10 minutes of blasting away at them, makes completing missions quite difficult.

Anyone experienced this as well?

I play the game on PC. Combat works fine but it is all about the type of weapons you have. Most of you damage to large ships is through broadsides whilst most of your damage to fighters, etc. will normally be through turrets of one description or another. It also helps not to leave a system till you have the best guns you can have for the system you are in as the the stuff available in the next system (after a jump through a gate) will be the next level up.

Oh, and make sure you are aiming your broadsides. If you just keep pressing the button the shots will go everywhere. Press and hold till the spread beam becomes much narrower and changes colour for best aim. If you are right next to the other ship then just spam the button to get through it's shields and hull quicker though.
