So I keep being told the PS4 apparently runs at 60hz, all the TV's in the range I can afford at 50hz,will this impact the PS4 at all? In particular I am looking at http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/tv-and-audio/televisions/led-lcd-televisions/panasonic-40-full-hd-led-lcd-tv-en-2.html THANKS

That TV will switch to 60Hz just fine with a 60Hz input to it. You should have no problems running the PS4 at 60Hz.

EDIT I have one, and it definitely switches to whatever frequency the input is 24/50/60Hz

50 Hz is mentioned in the TV specs because OTA TV transmissions in NZ are 50 Hz. TV itself still does 60 Hz.

50/100/200Hz are just tied to the legacy of PAL broadcasting in NZ. HDMI specs require support for the input of 60Hz modes, which TVs will interpolate up to 120 or 240 - whichever multiplier they use will stay the same. No good reason for advertising them as 50 or 100Hz TV at all, since they must do 60 if they want to wear the HDMI mark on them.

The reverse is not true tho, a TV sold in an historically NTSC country has no requirement to support the 50Hz modes on them - which is usually the case in the US with TVs so that they dont find their way out of that market to others where they cost a lot more.

50Hz is a stupid thing that needs to hurry up and die IMO.
