I've just grabbed a MAME emulator and games for the first time, getting to play some of those awesome old arcade games that I though I'd never be able to play again. It's not quite the same trying to play them with the keyboard though. Does anyone have a controller recommendation that I can use with my laptop. And is there anything particular that I need to do to be able to use it with the emulated games?

I like the Playstation controller for my gaming so provided you already have one you can get a PlayStation to USB connector off trade me for $13 it comes with two controller ports so if your a fan of double dragon or street fighter 2 it helps out alot.

Agree with this guy. I got one of these for all sorts of emulators, and it works great on Windows and Linux (although, Linux does need a bit of tinkering).

I believe you can also get the SIXAXIS PS3 controllers to work as well, there are drivers floating around, you can't use wirelessly though. Also the Xbox 360 controller is available for Windows.
