Hi LudZ! I'm not sure what system is in NZ, but I am thinking maybe PAL like Australia?. ntsc/uc is the US video region, ntsc/j is Asia, while Europe and Australia are PAL. There should be a sticker somewhere on your PS2 that says what it is. If you google around there are ways to go between ntsc/uc and ntsc/j, but I don't know about PAL.  Good luck, Cheers!

New Zealand does indeed use PAL. Im pretty sure NTSC works perfectly well on those systems as well.

NTSC games generally don't work in 'clean' PAL PS2's.

Unless your PS2 is modded, it won't work.

If you get your PS2 (regardless of model) modded with a suitable chip, then it should play NTSC and PAL  games fine.
Just do research on the chips before purchasing one to ensure it does what you want etc.

Where I used to work, this guy used to mod a lot of Xbox's. He also did a PS2, and it was quite a lot of work involved. If you're going to get it modded, get it done by someone who knows what they're doing, as it requires a lot of soldering.
