Yes, I love the Duke... great sense of humour and a hero as well...

I recently aquired a copy of DN 3D and loaded it OK. Then I bought (Trade me) a copy of the Plutonium Pak... that's when the miseries began. I can't get it to load. I've been around the block a bit (before I found this den) and got a numer of different 'soluitions,' none of which worked.

I've uninstalled and reloaded a number of times in different ways, but I can't get it to work. Can any of you resident genii under 35 help out?

What hardware and OS are you trying to run this under,

I suspect that the easiest solution might be to go to one of the computer recyclers/tardme and grab a pentium based machine for a few $$$,

Sorry, I should have noted those points...

My computer is just a year old, an HP Compaq with 1250 megs of RAM, 60 gigs of hard drive memory, AMD Sempron chips and XP Home. I'm already playing games much more advanced than this without any problems. The PC isn't the problem as far as modernity is concerned. It's something else...

Get something like DOS Box (IIRC) and run it in that.

Already downloaded DosBox, but it's not user-friendly software. I can't figure out how to use it. And anyway, if DN3D plays alright without DosBox, why shouldn't the Plutonium Pak do the same?

Its because it wasn't actually designed for PCs that have the amount of ram and CPU timings that we have today. I agree with the statement that getting an old Pentium box together, attacking things that way as being the best bet.

Alternatively, there is a version of the game out there on the intertron that has been heavily modified to support newer PCs. I don't have the name of that version on me, but I have heard of it running quite happily on a new machine thats running Vista.

Well, how come DN3D which is supposed to be older than the Plutonium Pak work fine? Weird...

I have another question of you all: I just aquired the Chronicles of Riddick and when I try to play I get a dialogue box telling me I need graphics driver support OPEN 1.3 or better. What exactly does one do to get this?

Probably cause to do some of the the funky plutonium Pak 3D stuff the code will be making some "interesting" programming calls that are not supported on either your later hardware or OS or both,

re: your open 1.3 problem, I think you mean open GL 1.3

Grab the "duke3d.grp file from the plutonium pak disc and get this new EXE to run it, the difference is stunning, you can even get a pack to trun all the sprite characters into 3d models which looks awesome.

Head over to JONOF's page, this guy partnered with the game engine creator Ken Silverman to rebuild a windows port.

Yep, been in touch with Jonno... he hasn't been able to come up with a solution either, but he's still working on it.
