Hey all

So I'm a bit lost as to what I want to upgrade too, I can't seem to find a lot of 1660 Super vs 2060 non super comparisons

I have about $500 to spend on a GPU, I currently have an R9 380 4GB, I mostly game at med-high 1080p as close to 144FPS as possible (I'm willing to sacrifice quality to bump the FPS as close to 144 as possible), I have an AOC C27G1 27" 1080p Freesync 144Hz monitor)

I was waiting for the RX 5500 to come out but was disappointed in the results from that

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Super OC 6GB for $469

or

ASUS GeForce RTX 2060 TUF Gaming OC 6GB for $549

Sorry I can't post links yet coz I'm new lol

Is it worth the extra $80 for the non super 2060, from what I can tell the 1660 Super has higher base/boost clocks, but lower memory clocks than the 2060

Rest of my system specs are as follows (Don't know how much it effects the above GPUs) I just upgraded from an i7 2600 system to the below, the GPU is the last thing on my list

Ryzen 7 2700x

MSI B450M Mortar Titanium

16GB DDR4 in dual channel

650w CM MWE PSU

Any other recommendations to look at would also be welcome, I've looked on trademe for used 1070s, 980s, RX 580s etc.. but I'd rather buy new for peace of mind of having a warranty, also I'm in Auckland, so I tend to shop at PBTech, Computerlounge, ExtremePC and Playtech, any other shop recommendations are also welcome

Thanks :)

the 2060 is about 20% better FPS wise in games for a 15% price premium

Yes you in a wired price point. Amd currently has nothing to offer.
1660 super will be ok.
2060 if you want rtx. if you play games at 1080 144hz you won't be using rtx. $100 extra for something you probably won't even use...

I think the little bit extra is worth it for the RTX2060, especially when you are chasing Hz. Following on from what Jase2985 said, see this MSI GTX 1660 Super review for a comparison of performance across a few games vs. the RTX2060. The higher clocks of the GTX1660 are meaningless, it has lesser hardware vs. the RTX2060. The 2060 could probably be OC'ed to that anyway.

Your only way to improve from here is to go to the next price point of RX5700/RTX2060S; if the 2060 is the limit of what your budget will allow, then get the best one in your budget.

Awesome, ty everyone

It's one of those things were you think to much about it then get yourself mixed up and need to hear others opinions for things to make sense

I sort of shot myself in the foot by selling my old PC with my R9 380 on trademe quicker than I expected and now need to get a new card before boxing day sales start, otherwise I probably could of got a 2060S for near the price of the 2060 I listed above. So now I need to buy one before Friday

I was originally just going to get an RX 580 8GB (and OC to 590 specs or close to), because to be fair probably any of the current line up will beat my old R9 380

and I only considered the 2060 non super last minute due to finding one closer to $500 than over $600 like most of them seem to be
