My teenage boy has asked for a gaming monitor for christmas. He is currently using an old 720HD 32" LCD TV. He just uses it for xbox gaming and watching you tube etc.

He has suggested this one

Don't know much about monitors. Is this one any good. Looks too small to me.  Wouldn't want too spend much one. Budget can probably stretch to 300.

Thanks in advance

Depends on how long you want it to last (in terms of new tech included), what gen console he has now or wants in the near future?

120HZ is the rage for the next gen consoles, so I'd probably up the budget and ask him to contribute to get it. 24" is pretty small really in my opinion, but I understand you'd don't want to spend the earth.

Personally, I'd take a higher refresh rate over a higher resolution, but mixing in size there is probably important.  So, I'd go with a 28-32", 120hz monitor if the budget can fit it, but $300 will probably be being optimistic :)

Then I think you are probably limiting yourself by not stumping up a little extra on a 120hz monitor in my opinion. Depends on how strict the budget is.

LG 32ML600M-B 32" Full HD IPS Monitor is reasonable value. Not 120hz, but quite a bit bigger.

AOC 27G2 27" Frameless Gaming IPS Monitor not too bad.

Also bear in mind that most monitors do not have speakers.  Therefore you'll want something that allows sound too: Either external speakers (e.g. some monitors allow headphones to be plugged in), separate amp etc.

I don't believe that monitor you linked to has speakers in it.  Its listed as not having a 3.5mm jack either - so you couldn't plug headphones into it either.

If your son is using a headset through the XBox directly I guess this is not of a concern.
