I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this, but I'll try anyway.

I have a DVD stuck inside my xbox! After watching a movie I'd only just bought yesterday, it ended up staying inside when I opened the tray. It was like there wasn't anything inside when it opened.

I've tried few ways of getting it out, except for taking the machine apart. I'm not sure what to do next. I've only had experience in taking PC's apart, and I'm not sure if an xbox is any different. I'm afraid if I try it myself, I may ruin the machine and/or the DVD in the process. On top of that, I can't afford to take it in to be looked at. :(

What do I do? It's a standard xbox, not a 360.

I googled this and the first hit gave me this response directly from MS Support. Google is your friend.

Unplug your Xbox console from the power source.
Locate the manual release button on your Xbox console.

For most Xbox consoles, the manual release button is located in a small pinhole to the left of the eject button under the disc tray.

For some Xbox consoles, the manual release button is located under the disc tray. It can be under the "O" or the "B" in the word "XBOX" that appears on the tray.
Insert a straightened paper clip or other small tool in the hole at an angle to the left. Gently push the paper clip to try to press the manual release button and partially open the disc tray. This may take several tries. Typically, a thin paper clip works better than a thick paper clip.

If you insert the paperclip in the hole and find an obstacle, this indicates that your Xbox console's manual release button is located in a different area of the console. Look under the "O" or the "B" in the word "XBOX" that appears on the tray. If this is the case, insert the paperclip under the "O" as outlined in step C. If you find an obstacle, insert the paperclip under the letter "B”. The manual release button is located in one of these three locations.
After the disc tray partially opens, pull the tray with your fingers to fully open the tray.

I don't think they have a problem ejecting the tray.
It sounds like the tray is ejecting but the disc is staying in the drive!

You will probably have to open it up to get it out.
To do this though you need a couple of torx screwdrivers.

True, my bad.

As CYaBro says, pop the lid and take out the DVD drive (fairly straight forward), then take the drive apart to get the disc out of the mechanism.

Thanks for the replies. :) One more question though...how do I open it? I was only able to find one screw to undo, and that was on the bottom near the centre (sort of). After that, it was beyond me as to how to get the console open...

Make sure youve checked under all the stickers aswell as theres a couple of screws hidden there as well.
I took mine apart recently to install a mod chip and found once the cover was off it was eay towork with.

Problem solved! Thank you!

After getting the disc out, I discovered something sticky was on the pictured side of it. This may have been the culprit, because I tried the DVD in my PC (while putting the xbox together) as it was a little scratched - and it got stuck in there as well! But it was easier to get out of that, thankfully.

So yeah, off to the shop I bought the movie from on Monday! Shouldn't have been some sticky stuff on my disc...
