Right i have a problem,
i have a 20" HD computer monitor at 1600x900 res but does not have an HDMI port in the back, only a DVI and VGA port, and i planned to connect up my PS3 to the monitor so i went out and brought a HDMI to DVI cable to achieve this, it all fits and works but the problem is the playstion won't display its content in 1600x900 res and stays at the native 576i resolution for the console, it just will not let it even tho if i hook my computer up to it through a VGA cable it shows full resolution for the screen with no problems, yet the PS3 cannot do this, am i doin something wrong or is it just the PS3 failing?

cheers.

I suspect the PS3 simply can't drive the monitor at it's native 1600x900 resolution.

Hi yes the ps3 can't do that native resoultion you need to use component out on the ps3 and buy device called X2VGA and it will convert the component signal to VGA the resolutions you will be able to use are 576 p and 720 p your moniter won't support any other ones. I bought mine online here in NZ.

Sorry guys the heading was wrong its HDMI to DVI, my mistake,
and i use the hdmi to dvi cable for the ps3, and vga for the laptop..
so your saying the playstaion cannot recognize 1600x900?
i did some research and my minitor might not have HDCP built into it?

Hi yep ps3 recognises 1080 p & i and 720 p & i and 576 p & i. You could try 720 p.

Hi your only hope might be to use the VGA port and X2VGA 2 as I mentioned earlier it is what I had to use.
