After playing kane and kynch 2, mafia 2 feels like the best game ever, its not off course but its good and the cut scenes are great

I'm liking it too, I was a huge fan of the first on pc, now playing sequel on 360. I'm up to chapter 11 of 15, which is kind of sad cos I font want it to end!

do you need to play the first to get the full experience in the 2nd, or does it standalone?

Mafia II is a story on its own apparently as 99% of the characters from Mafia were killed in the first game :)

Reading reviews, seems to be mixed feelings about the game.... some say great story and presentation but gameplay is a letdown. Other say its a great game all round.

Personally, think Id rent it first to check it out.

I really like it, my only complaint is its probably a bit short/ nothihg to do after main story.
Hopefully this is fixed in the coming months with some DLC, there is an ad for the first "episode" about a hitman, on the backcover of the booklet in the game.  Cars and suits don't count as DLC to me...

Older thread I know but I've been biding my time on this one... Coming from Assassins Creed II and RDD, I'm finding Mafia II is very slow. You can't really go freelance exploring for any benefit or fun, which would be fine if the story you then have to stick to provided all the excitement you'd want, which it doesn't.

Don't feel any connection to any of the characters so can't say I'm that into it, but it'll hold me over until something else comes along.

I pumped it out in a couple of days then returned to EB Games under their 7 day return policy.
There are some memorable missions and the attention to detail is impressive, but simply it is too short.

Hehe... that's a good idea! I'm way out of my 7 day period tho sadly, but sounds like I won't have long to go.

If you're playing on the PC there is an unofficial "patch" which allows free mode.

its a great game allround. the only thing that keeps annoying me is cops come after you when your speeding. closer to reality, but sometimes speeding is the key ingredient

I just couldn't finish it. What was the point of the whole jail bit? Learn how to fight? Did that already... then defending myself in the shower room, classy touch. But driving a slow truck across the other side of town to sell cigarettes for $2 a pop then driving back across town to the next selling point was the last straw...

T'is now on Trademe.
